About Jines

Japan's Independent Network of English Schools is a network dedicated to, and controlled by, the independent schools themselves to provide an online database of quality owned and operated English language schools throughout Japan.

Jines provides students the ability to search for a local independent English language school in their local area.

All schools are:
• Independently owned and operated.
• Provide Qualified, Full Time, Native, English Language Teachers.
• Ensure quality ESL programs to their students.
• Committed to improving ESL services to their local community.

Developed to provide ease of use for the Japanese student, all the information in the Jines database, on any individual school, has been created by the school themselves.

Jines charges no service fee for the schools to join, nor does it charge the Japanese student to access the information contained within this website.

The purpose of Jines is to provide a gateway for Japanese students to locate a suitable school in addition to providing a forum for school owners to share ideas on improving English language services in Japan.

Developers

Mr. Brian Dentry
Since 1988 Brian has been deeply immersed in all things Japan. Starting out as a teacher in Mito, Ibaraki, Brian has gone on to develop wesites for Kodansha International, Mainichi Newspapers, Asia Development Bank Institute, and is currently owner and editor of News On Japan.

Mr. Peter Carter
After arriving in Japan on a Working Holiday visa during the sakura season of 1986, Peter has worked a number of fulltime and casual teaching positions, predominantly with independent schools throughout Japan.
In 1997 the call of home (Australia) was too loud and he moved to Brisbane where he took up the position of Marketing Manager at the Queensland College of English.
After two enjoyable years at QCA Peter moved to the Centre for Applied Linguistics and Languages, Griffith University, under the then Director Professor David Ingram to head up the Academic and Professional Programs Unit.
For the next eight years Peter partook in many important developments for the centre and saw it grow into one of the biggest and most respected English Language Institutes in Australia.
Now married to a Japanese national and with a small daughter Peter moved his family back to Osaka where he established Beat Australia whilst also continuing to hold the position of Project Manager – East Asia for the Griffith English Language Institute.
Since December 2009 Peter has relinquished his position at Griffith University and now solely concentrates on the continued growth of Beat Australia and is proud to have Beat Eikaiwa as one of the founding members of Jines.

Creators

Since January 2009, many long hours have gone into discussion on what JINES should be, how it could help Japanese students of English, what services it could provide to school owners and what it should look like.

There are too many people to mention who have been involved during the time its has taken for JINES to be created. But it would be remiss of us not to mention some key colleagues here.

In no particular order, JINES would like to thank the following for their invaluable contribution to the development of this website;
